Brown Bess Musket Workbench

From the workshop of 1st Virginia Regiment re-enactor and Sons of the American Revolution Colorguard member Rob Andrews comes the Brown Bess Workbench. Born of necessity and made for practicality, this carefully crafted treasure will help you take care of your prized possession -- your Brown Bess -- and increase your enjoyment of this fine black-powder weapon.

"When I would work on my musket it would move all over the workbench, knocking over things and making my tools fall on the floor. My solution was to make a workbench to hold the musket securely while I was working on it. It worked so well, I thought it was something that other enthusiasts like me would love to have."
Rob Andrews
The musket workbench is made of hand selected red oak or poplar pieces which are then crafted into a perfect cradle to hold a Pedersoli Model 2 Brown Bess musket. The musket is supported by four pylons, carefully arranged to provide maximum support and to allow access to all the parts of the musket. Each of the pylons supporting the musket is faced with soft felt to protect your musket stock.
The secondary pylons will hold your musket in an upright position allowing easy access to the lock mechanism, retaining screws and the barrel mount screw. Precise adjustment of your flint, dressing of the frizzen, cleaning the pan area and oiling of the lock is troublefree and you can test fire to get the best spark from your flint.

To make caring for your musket even easier, at one end of the workbench are the flintlock supports. These supports hold your lock mechanism safely and securely with the internal spring facing up to allow you easy disassembly, cleaning and lubrication.

A drop towel or rag may be placed under the lock to absorb any oil or grease. There is also enough clearance to allow the musket to be placed in the horizontal position on the workbench without worrying about the stock making contact with the lock below.

So you have removed the ram rod and barrel from the musket stock. Where do you put them? On the barrel and rod stand of course!
The specially designed pylons support the angled barrel mount on one end and the barrel at the other end. The barrel end pylon is slotted above and below the barrel hole to allow the bayonet and mounting lugs to pass through with a minimum of fuss.

Each pylon also has openings that allow you to store your ram rod out of harms way as well. Removing rust and oiling your barrel and ram rod is a breeze. You can also place your musket stock in the vertical position while the barrel is resting in the supports.

To help keep you from losing the pins and getting them mixed up, there is a pin holding groove between each set of pylons to hold the assembly pins right next to where they go in the musket stock. To keep all your parts and screws handy, a padded parts bin has been added to the end of the bench.

The assembly screws have been recessed into the back of the bench to prevent marring of table surfaces and every workbench features "keyholes" - 1 vertically, 3 horizontally - to provide easy hanging storage out of the way when the bench is not in use.

Also included are felt pads (not shown) that affix to the bottom of the workbench to also protect table surfaces. All workbenches have a natural linseed oil finish to protect and seal the wood.
