Henry N. "Hank" McCarl, PhD - Past President General

Henry "Hank" McCarl is Professor Emeritus, School of Business, University of Alabama.  He retired from active teaching two years ago.

Hank is a life member of the SAR. He served two terms as President of Alabama's Birmingham Chapter, and as President of the Alabama Society in 1995-96.

At the national level of the SAR, President General Hank McCarl has served as Secretary General and Treasurer General and a member of the NSSAR Executive Committee for three terms.  He has served as Chairman, member  or ex-officio member of the George Washington Endowment Fund Board, The George Washington Endowment Fund Distribution Committee, Insurance Committee, Budget Committee, Investment Committee, Finance Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, and Eagle Scout Committee.

His SAR medals and awards include the Patriot Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Distinguished Service Certificate (4) and several Certificates of Appreciation.

Hank's qualifying patriot ancestor for membership in the SAR is Samuel Wharton, a member of the militia in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
