General Hugh Mercer Wreath Laying

Col. Fielding Lewis Chapter President Dr. Jim Griffes offered the opening prayer during the annual commemorative program honoring General Hugh Mercer.  Mercer is the only American General ever to die from wounds inflicted by bayonet.  Mercer, a surgeon and pharmacist in Fredericksburg before accepting his commission, fought his last battle at Princeton, New Jersey. VASSAR Color Guardsmen (L-R) Jim Bayne, Andy Johnson, Larry McKinley, Trice Taylor and Dominic Lay participated.
