Robert L. "Bob" Bowen - Registrar

Bob Bowen retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Captain, having come up through the enlisted and warrant officer ranks.  He later retired from the U. S. Voice of America as a writer/editor.

Bob served four tours in Vietnam as a combat correspondent, winning the title:"Runnerup, Military Photographer of the Year" in 1967.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, 2 Navy Achievement Medals, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon, among others.

Bob is a past Virginia State Commander and a past National Vice Commander of The American Legion.  His Revolutionary War ancestor is Robert Abernethy, a representative to the North Carolina Provincial Congress at Halifax, NC, in 1776, when the state adopted its constitution.

Bob is currently President-Elect of the Virginia Society, Chairman of the VASSAR Audit Committee, Communications Committee, Howard Hamilton Fund Trustees Committee, is Editor of the Virginia Bulletin, serves on the Flathers/May Fund Trustees Committee, and VASSAR Flag Committees 

At the national level, he recently served as Vice-President General International, is Senior Advisor of the Partners in Patriotism Committee, Chairman of the Legislative Affairs Committee, Chairman of the Magazine and Editorial Advisory Committee, and serves on the Congressional Government Relations Committee, Genealogy Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Resolutions Committee and Master of Ceremonies Committee.
